Simple Ways to Celebrate the Summer Solstice
Soft, soul-friendly rituals to soak in the sun’s magic.
The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year when the sun reaches its highest point and the earth is bathed in golden light.
It’s a sacred turning point, filled with warmth, clarity, and the invitation to slow down and reconnect.
Whether you feel drawn to traditional Summer Solstice rituals or prefer more gentle, intuitive ways to celebrate, this day is yours to honour however feels right.
Below, I’m sharing twelve soft, soulful ideas to help you celebrate the Summer Solstice your way. No pressure, no fluff, just calm, nourishing magic to match the season’s energy.
1. Work with solar crystals
Crystals are beautiful allies during the Solstice. Choose ones that carry warmth, confidence, clarity, and joy.
Try placing them on your altar, holding one during a walk, or simply popping one in your pocket.
Crystal companions to consider:
- Sunstone – gentle empowerment, joy, leadership
- Citrine – abundance, confidence, mental clarity
- Golden Healer – energy cleansing with a bright twist
- Amber – warmth, vitality, emotional lightness
2. Watch the sunrise or sunset
Let this be your moment to reflect, breathe, and connect. There’s no need for a fancy ritual, just witnessing the start or close of this powerful day is enough.
Whisper an intention, sit with your thoughts, or let the stillness say it all.
If it’s of interest, you can catch the sunrise at Glastonbury on youtube in the morning.
3. Charge your crystals in the sun
Let your crystal companions soak up the Solstice rays. You don’t need hours of blazing sun, just a few gentle beams on a windowsill will do.
Place them mindfully and trust they’ll soak up just what you need.
4. Make a sun tea
A slow and soulful way to bring the energy of the sun into your body.
Fill a glass jar with herbs or edible flowers, add water, and leave it in the sunlight to infuse for a few hours.
Try:
- Chamomile (calm)
- Lemon balm (gentle uplift)
- Mint (clarity)
- Rose petals (heart soothing)
Strain and sip with intention.
5. Create a gratitude list
This is the perfect time to pause and honour what has bloomed for you – what you’ve survived, what you’ve created, or simply what has brought you joy.
Even the tiniest wins deserve a spot on your list.
6. Adorn your altar or living space with summer flowers
Let your sacred space bloom. You don’t need a big, fancy altar, even a corner of your shelf or windowsill counts.
Flower ideas:
- Marigolds for protection and fire energy
- Sunflowers for solar connection and strength
- Wildflowers for freedom and flow
7. Journal under the sun
If it’s warm enough, take your notebook outside or sit by a sunny window, and let the natural light wrap around you as you write. You don’t need fancy prompts or deep introspection (unless that’s what you’re craving).
Try this gentle question to start with:
“What is ready to shine more brightly in my life?”
Let your pen flow freely. Maybe you’ll write about growth, joy, or even what’s been getting in your way. Let the sun hold you while you sort through it.
8. Take a barefoot walk
This is one of the most natural grounding practices we can do, and the Solstice is a beautiful time to reconnect with the earth. Step outside barefoot, even if it’s just onto the grass in your garden. Notice how it feels: the temperature, the texture, the sensation of contact.
Each step can be an invitation to come back into your body.
You might like to quietly repeat something like,
“I am grounded. I am safe. I am supported.”
Let the earth do what it’s always done – hold you.

9. Light a candle at sunset (or a firepit if you have one)
As the sun sets on the longest day, lighting a candle can be a beautiful way to symbolise carrying its energy within. This doesn’t need to be a big ritual if you’re not wanting it to be, just a quiet moment.
You might sit in silence, reflecting on the light and what it’s brought you this year. Or you could speak an intention into the flame – something you’d like to grow or protect as the seasons slowly turn.
This act can be especially meaningful if you’re craving a sense of personal power or renewal.
10. Dance or move your body freely
Movement helps us shift stuck energy and reconnect with joy, and there’s something especially powerful about doing this when the sun is at its peak.
Put on a song that lights you up (close the door if that makes you feel safer or more comfortable) This is just for you.
You could dance barefoot in the garden, stretch in the living room, or sway slowly under the sun.
Let your body lead the way. This is celebration as embodiment – no rules, no perfection, just let it flow.
11. Spend time near water
Solstice energy is fiery and vibrant, but water brings a much-needed balance, especially for sensitive souls. If you’re able, spend time near natural water like the sea, a river, a lake. Let it remind you that flow and stillness can exist side by side.
If you’re at home, you can still work with water.
Try:
- Soaking your feet in a bowl of cool water infused with mint or lemon
- Running your hands through water and imagining it washing away overwhelm
- Having a mindful shower, letting the water carry away anything heavy that might be weighing you down or keeping you stuck.
Let it be cleansing, not just physically, but energetically too.
12. Set an intention for the season ahead
The Solstice is a moment of fullness, but it’s also a threshold. From here, the days begin to slowly shorten again. This makes it a beautiful time to set an intention for how you want to move through the second half of the year.
Try asking:
“What energy do I want to expand or protect as the light shifts?”
You could write your intention down and tuck it under a sunny crystal like Citrine or Sunstone, or whisper it aloud to the wind as a quiet offering.
Let it be personal. Let it be yours. Keep it simple and realÂ
Final Thoughts:
You don’t need to do everything. You don’t even need to do most of it.
The Solstice isn’t about ticking boxes, it’s about feeling what’s right for you and honouring it in your own way.
Even a few deep breaths in the sunshine can be your ritual.
